In Ypsilanti, Michigan, the Eastern Michigan University rowing team achieved its best timing since 2019 at the inaugural Ford Lake Cup. The event was markedly the largest regatta hosted at Ford Lake, comprising eight schools competing at the EMU Rowing Course. On April 26, amid adverse weather conditions, Eastern Michigan secured a tie for fourth place, while the University of Delaware claimed victory.

The EMU’s 1V8+ showcased an impressive time of 6:37.3 in the heat race. However, in the Grand Final, they secured the fifth position with a timing of 6:54.1. The initial timing registered was the team’s fastest since their triumph at the J. Clark Wray Cup Race on April 28, 2019.

In another notable performance, the 2V8+ clinched first place in its heat race with a time of 6:53.7 and went on to rank third in the Grand Final with 6:59.9. The 1V4+ also participated, finishing the race in 8:08.4. High winds affected the day’s events, causing the cancellation of the 2V4+ race, among others.

The final team standings placed Delaware first, followed by Bucknell and UMass. Eastern Michigan and Temple shared the fourth spot, while West Virginia, High Point, and Duquesne completed the ranks.

The competition’s detailed results revealed that Delaware topped both the Varsity 8+ Heat 2 and Varsity 8+ Grand Final, with the latter featuring participation from several competing teams including Eastern Michigan and Temple.

Looking forward, Eastern Michigan University plans to celebrate Senior Day against the University of Dayton at the EMU Rowing Course on May 3. Attendees are directed to Ford Lake Park, noting a $10 parking fee.
