Eastern Michigan University’s baseball team achieved a significant victory against Bowling Green State University in the Mid-American Conference Baseball Championships. The Eagles, seeded sixth, won 10-7 in a game that extended to ten innings. This win marks EMU’s first postseason triumph since 2017.

The game was held at Crushers Stadium in Avon, Ohio, on May 22. Bowling Green tied the score at seven in the ninth inning before Eastern Michigan secured three runs in the tenth. Logan Hugo played a pivotal role with a two-run double, followed by Harrison Travis who doubled to bring Hugo home.

Ethan Davis closed the game for EMU, allowing no runs from BGSU and securing their place in the next round of the tournament. “It is the first time the Eagles have won an extra-inning game in the MAC Tournament since they beat Northern Illinois 12-11 in 10 innings,” stated an official release.

Hugo led Eastern’s offense with three RBIs and his crucial double that put them ahead. Ethan Davis earned the win for his performance on the mound while Landon Willeman from BGSU took the loss.

The match saw several key performances from EMU players including Drew Beckner who pitched six innings and struck out eight batters. Giano Zuccaro contributed with a solo home run and John Hale added an RBI single to increase EMU’s lead during the game.

The Eagles recorded their first MAC Tournament win since defeating Central Michigan University on May 27, 2017. The victory also marked their first postseason upset since overcoming Central Michigan in a semi-final doubleheader that same year.

Eastern Michigan will proceed to face one of four possible teams—Miami RedHawks, Toledo Rockets, Kent State Golden Flashes, or Ball State Cardinals—in their next tournament matchup scheduled for May 23 at 6 p.m.
