Eastern Michigan University finds itself tied for the lead with Northern Illinois University after the first round of the Mid-American Conference Men’s Golf Championships at Pinnacle Golf Club in Grove City, Ohio. Freshman James Baxter leads individually by one stroke after carding a 5-under 67.

The Eastern Michigan team achieved a combined score of 3-under 285, sharing the top spot, while Kent State University stands third with an even-par 288. The University of Toledo is in fourth place at 1-over 289, followed by Ball State University at 5-over 293.

James Baxter, a freshman from London, England, led the individual standings with his 5-under 67. His performance marks the fourth time this season he has scored 68 or lower. Craig Long II from Northern Illinois scored a 4-under 68 to sit in second place. Rory McDonald-O’Brien from Eastern Michigan is in third position after recording a 3-under 69.

Besides Baxter and McDonald-O’Brien, other Eastern Michigan players in the tournament include Daniel Robles Delval, tied for 19th at 2-over 74; Tim Chan, tied for 25th at 3-over 75; and Bavake Sihota, tied for 33rd at 5-over 77.

Competition resumes on Monday, April 28, with tee times starting at 9 a.m.
