This morning, Congressman John Moolenaar supported the passage of H.R. 1, known as the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act. The bill aligns with the mandate given to President Trump and the Republican Party by voters in November. Key provisions include preventing a 25% tax increase on Michigan families, enhancing U.S. Border Patrol and ICE capabilities at the southern border, and reducing wasteful spending while safeguarding programs like Medicaid for vulnerable populations.
The legislation incorporates Congressman Moolenaar’s NO GOTION Policy, which prevents companies linked to the Chinese Communist Party from receiving green energy production tax credits.
“The One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act is a major win for families in Michigan’s Second Congressional District,” stated Moolenaar. “This bill delivers on our promises to the American people to prevent a tax hike that would cost them thousands and puts an end to the crisis at the southern border. It also addresses wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars by establishing commonsense policies to protect programs like Medicaid for Michigan residents who rely on it,” he added. “I am also grateful my NO GOTION policy was included in this critical legislation. The tax dollars of hard-working Michigan families should not fund companies like Gotion, which are beholden to the Chinese Communist Party. I will continue my work to support Michiganders and get our nation back on the right track.”
Moolenaar’s NO GOTION policy aims to block foreign entities of concern from accessing green energy production tax credits introduced under the Biden administration’s “Inflation Reduction Act.” Gotion is described as a subsidiary of Gotion High-Tech, a Chinese battery company subsidized by its government.
The budget reconciliation bill maintains Medicaid for those dependent on it while addressing issues such as coverage for able-bodied Americans not working and illegal immigrants using taxpayer-funded services. H.R. 1 seeks to remove Medicaid benefits from individuals illegally residing in the country and mandates that able-bodied recipients return to work.
H.R. 1 makes permanent extensions from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, preventing a significant tax hike for Michigan families and saving them over $1,300 annually on average. Additional relief includes eliminating federal income taxes on tipped wages, overtime pay, and interest on loans for American-made cars.
Under previous administrations, illegal crossings averaged nearly 160,000 encounters monthly; however, recent reports show over a 90% reduction with just 8,383 incidents last month under Trump’s leadership. H.R. 1 continues these efforts by funding U.S. Border Patrol hiring initiatives and technology improvements aimed at detecting fentanyl while completing border wall construction.
