Chairman John Moolenaar of the House Select Committee on China has reached out to Almonty Industries, Inc. with a request for comprehensive information regarding the company’s ability and dedication to supplying tungsten to the United States. Tungsten is considered vital for U.S. defense due to its use in ammunition, aerospace components, and advanced electronics. Currently, there is no domestic production of this critical mineral.

The letter from Chairman Moolenaar underscores tungsten’s strategic importance and seeks insight into how Almonty’s mining operations might help decrease U.S. dependency on Chinese imports of this mineral. “Tungsten is an essential input in a wide range of defense systems, including armor-piercing munitions, aerospace components, and advanced electronics,” said Chairman Moolenaar. He noted that the U.S.’s reliance on sources linked to China poses a significant risk to national defense capabilities.

Additionally, the letter asks for details about Almonty’s reserves, production capacity, and existing commercial relationships, particularly those involving Chinese partners.

Chairman Moolenaar emphasized the committee’s dedication to addressing China’s control over critical mineral supply chains and ensuring that America’s industrial base has access to necessary resources for defense purposes.
